The DESERT Project is led by a multidisciplinary team of experts committed to scientific innovation and international cooperation. This alliance brings together researchers from the University of Zaragoza (Spain), the University of Évora (Portugal), Medipol University in Istanbul (Turkey), and the Aragon Health Research Institute (Spain), in collaboration with staff from the Cámara de Comercio de Teruel (Spain). Each institution contributes its expertise in key areas such as health, sustainability, technology, and social sciences, creating a comprehensive and collaborative approach.

Dr. Kalkan is a faculty member at the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, Faculty of Health Sciences, Istanbul Medipol University. She has teaching experience of 15 years at undergraduate and post graduate levels and is a research advisor to master’s and doctoral students. Dr. Kalkan specializes in various branches of nutrition such as nutritional biochemistry, nutrition in special population, nutrition education for different age groups, sustainable nutrition and has several international and national scientific publications in these areas.
